Detroit Tigers Offseason Outlook: Challenges Ahead
The Detroit Tigers are preparing for a crucial offseason following a disappointing 76-86 finish in 2026. The team struggled significantly in May, with a record of 6-22, which led to the decision to trade their two-time Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal, to the Dodgers.
In addition to Skubal, the Tigers also traded Casey Mize to San Diego for a first-round pick, Kash Mayfield. Despite these moves, the team did not engage in a complete rebuild, retaining players under club control. The Tigers faced challenges in the latter part of the season, including a poor performance in late August that dashed their playoff hopes.
As they look ahead to 2027, the Tigers will need to address their pitching staff and make adjustments to the lower half of their lineup. The American League Central remains competitive, but the Tigers are expected to aim for a division title next season.
