Dhananjaya de Silva Resigns as Sri Lanka Test Captain
Dhananjaya de Silva has stepped down as the captain of Sri Lanka's Test cricket team, effective immediately, concluding his leadership after 18 matches.
The 35-year-old communicated his decision to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board's selection committee, expressing a belief that the captaincy should transition to the next generation. De Silva took over the captaincy in January 2024, following the retirement of Dimuth Karunaratne, and during his tenure, Sri Lanka achieved seven wins, eight losses, and three draws.
His captaincy included notable series victories against teams like Afghanistan and Bangladesh. De Silva's performance as captain featured a standout match where he scored centuries in both innings against Bangladesh. Despite stepping down, he will continue to be available for selection as a player. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has not yet announced a successor, with the team's next Test series against Pakistan scheduled to begin on November 9.
