Diamondbacks Designate Jorge Barrosa for Assignment

The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated outfielder Jorge Barrosa for assignment after reinstating Tommy Troy from the 10-day injured list.

Barrosa, who is 25 years old, was signed from Venezuela in 2017 and had been with the Diamondbacks since November 2022 to avoid the Rule 5 draft. He spent most of his time in the minors, where he struggled offensively, hitting just 29 home runs over 1,325 plate appearances in Triple-A Reno. His performance included a .279 batting average and a 97 wRC+, indicating he was slightly below average offensively.

Throughout his brief major league career, Barrosa has recorded a .180 batting average with a 6.3% walk rate and a 26% strikeout rate. His defensive skills, however, have been noted, with six Defensive Runs Saved and 11 Outs Above Average in 623 2/3 innings in the outfield. Following this designation, Barrosa will be placed on waivers, and if unclaimed, he will remain with the Diamondbacks as non-roster depth.
