Diamondbacks Place Ketel Marte on Restricted List
The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed second baseman Ketel Marte on the restricted list shortly before their game against the Boston Red Sox. Infielder Jose Fernandez has been recalled from Triple-A Reno to take Marte's place.
Marte traveled with the team to Boston but did not arrive at Fenway Park, leading the team to wait until game time in hopes of his arrival. Initially expected to serve as the designated hitter, Marte's absence has prompted Lars Nootbaar to fill that role instead. Fernandez joins a makeshift infield due to Nolan Arenado's day-to-day torso injury.
The restricted list is typically used for players unavailable for non-injury reasons, and there is no minimum duration for such placements. Marte's absence appears unexpected, as he is reportedly in good health. This situation echoes past frustrations among teammates regarding Marte's work habits, particularly following a similar incident last year.
