Diana Taurasi's Jersey Retired by Phoenix Mercury in Emotional Ceremony
Diana Taurasi, recognized as the WNBA's all-time leading scorer, had her No. 3 jersey retired by the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday. The ceremony took place during halftime of a game against the Portland Fire, where Taurasi's family was present, and her championship trophies were displayed.
Throughout her career, Taurasi led the Mercury to three championships and received numerous accolades, including an MVP award and five scoring titles. She was the first overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft and retired in 2024 with a total of 10,646 points, the highest in league history.
In her speech, Taurasi expressed gratitude to the city of Phoenix for its support, reflecting on her journey since arriving in 2004. She joins a select group of players, including her wife Penny Taylor, whose numbers have been retired by the franchise.
