Dion Prestia Discusses Richmond Exit and Future Aspirations
Dion Prestia, a former player for Richmond, has revealed that he would have continued playing in 2027 to help manage the scrutiny faced by the club, which has struggled in recent seasons. Despite his wish to remain at Punt Road, he was informed that he would not receive a new contract.
Richmond has faced challenges, finishing in the bottom two for three consecutive seasons due to injuries and the development of younger players. Prestia expressed his understanding of the club's decision to move on from veteran players, acknowledging the difficulty of such choices.
He emphasized the need for Richmond to bring in experienced players rather than relying solely on the draft, given the talent of their existing young roster. Prestia is currently training and remains open to opportunities with other AFL clubs, including a potential link to GWS, while also aspiring to become a senior coach in the future.
