Dodgers Designate Cole Irvin for Assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated pitcher Cole Irvin for assignment after his recent return to Major League Baseball. This decision comes as the team adds right-handers Kyle Hurt and Wyatt Mills to their bullpen, filling the roster spots left by Irvin and Will Klein, who has been placed on the injured list.

Cole Irvin, 32, previously played for the Phillies, Athletics, Orioles, and Twins, achieving notable success as a starter for the Athletics in 2021 and 2022. He signed with the KBO's Doosan Bears during the 2024-25 offseason, where he had a 4.48 ERA over 28 starts. The Dodgers signed him to a minor league contract this past winter. In 20 starts at Triple-A Oklahoma this season, he recorded a 3.58 ERA, although his underlying statistics raised concerns.

Irvin made his first MLB appearance in nearly two years on Friday, pitching six innings and allowing six runs on eight hits, resulting in a loss. Despite the disappointing outcome, he managed to provide the Dodgers with much-needed innings. If he clears waivers, Irvin may opt for free agency.
