Dodgers' Negotiations with Tarik Skubal May Require Concessions
The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly hesitant to engage in negotiations with pitcher Tarik Skubal on his terms. According to a report by Katie Woo from The Athletic, the team may only be serious contenders to re-sign Skubal if he is open to a contract structure similar to that of Kyle Tucker.
Tucker, an outfielder who signed with the Dodgers last offseason, received a four-year, $240 million deal that includes opt-outs after the second and third years, along with $30 million in deferred payments. Skubal, acquired from the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline, is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and is considered one of the top pitchers in baseball.
After joining the Dodgers, Skubal performed well, achieving a 5-2 record with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP in ten regular-season starts. He also had a solid postseason, going 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in two starts, despite the Dodgers being eliminated by the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. Skubal, represented by agent Scott Boras, is expected to attract offers exceeding four years and $240 million, with several potential suitors already showing interest.
