Dodgers President Confirms Team Is Not for Sale Amid Owner's Legal Scrutiny
Speculation regarding the Los Angeles Dodgers' future has arisen as owner Mark Walter faces scrutiny from federal prosecutors and the Securities and Exchange Commission over potential loan fraud. Walter, who is also the CEO of Guggenheim Partners, recently sold the Los Angeles Lakers for $12.5 billion, just a year after acquiring the franchise for $10 billion.
In response to concerns, Dodgers president Stan Kasten stated that the team is not for sale and emphasized that no sale process has been initiated. He highlighted the importance of the Dodgers to Walter, contrasting it with the Lakers deal, which he described as an extraordinary opportunity.
Walter, who is 66 and based in Chicago, led Guggenheim's purchase of the Dodgers for a then-record $2.15 billion in 2012. The team has achieved significant success under his ownership, including three World Series championships. Currently, the Dodgers hold the second-best record in Major League Baseball at 78-51 and are poised to secure their 13th NL West title in 14 years.
