Dodgers Release Catcher Chuckie Robinson
The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the release of catcher Chuckie Robinson, as reported by his transactions tracker on MLB.com. Robinson had previously been designated for assignment and cleared outright waivers last week.
The reasons behind Robinson's release remain unclear, but it may be linked to recent adjustments in the Dodgers' catching lineup. Initially, the team had Will Smith and Dalton Rushing as their primary catchers, with no other players on the 40-man roster. Robinson was called up when Smith was placed on the injured list in June, but was later replaced by Eliezer Alfonzo in July. After clearing waivers, he accepted an outright assignment, serving as the third catcher behind Rushing and Alfonzo.
Following Rushing's injury earlier this month, Robinson was briefly recalled, but the Dodgers subsequently acquired Hunter Feduccia and Ben Rortvedt, who are now on the major league roster. Alfonzo has been optioned to Triple-A, reducing Robinson's chances of another call-up. Despite his struggles at the plate, with a career batting line of .124/.157/.176, Robinson is valued for his defensive skills and experience with pitching staffs.
