Dodgers Send Ben Rortvedt to Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers have sent catcher Ben Rortvedt outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City following the activation of two other catchers earlier this week. Rortvedt was designated for assignment on Tuesday, and while he has the option to reject the assignment in favor of free agency, doing so would mean forfeiting his remaining $1.25 million salary and missing postseason eligibility with another team.

Rortvedt, 28, has had a challenging career in Major League Baseball, with limited appearances since his debut in 2021. He played a few games for the Minnesota Twins before being traded to the New York Yankees. After a knee injury sidelined him in 2022, he returned to play 32 games in 2023, but his offensive performance has been underwhelming, resulting in a low batting average across his first two seasons.

Despite a brief resurgence with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2024, Rortvedt's offensive struggles continued in 2025, leading to his removal from the Rays' 40-man roster. He joined the Dodgers mid-season and contributed as a primary catcher during the playoffs. Currently, the Dodgers have three catchers on their active roster, but with one recovering from injury, Rortvedt may be called back up if needed.
