Dodgers Update: Will Smith Begins Rehab, Ohtani Nears Return

Will Smith is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, marking his first game action since June 5 due to an inflamed disc in his neck. The injury had sidelined him for nearly three months, leading to his placement on the 60-day injured list.

Smith has recently participated in live batting practice, which was a prerequisite for his rehab assignment. He is expected to spend at least a week in Oklahoma City to readjust to the demands of catching. The Dodgers aim to have him ready for the playoffs, despite the challenges posed by Shohei Ohtani's presence on the roster.

Ohtani is also nearing a return to the mound, with manager Dave Roberts indicating he might pitch as early as August 30 against the Tigers. Additionally, Tyler Glasnow is anticipated to be activated from the 60-day IL during the upcoming series against the Braves. Eric Lauer will transition to a bullpen role, and Andy Pages recently underwent minor surgery on his fractured left hand, with an estimated recovery time of 4-5 weeks.
