Dolphins Backup Quarterback Competition Intensifies

The competition for the backup quarterback position is heating up, particularly with second-year player Quinn Ewers initially expected to secure the role. Ewers had a mixed performance last season, and his struggles continued in the preseason, where he completed just 1 of 8 passes for 27 yards and threw an interception in a loss to the Washington Commanders. Additionally, he is currently sidelined due to a groin injury.

In Ewers' absence, Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski have stepped in, but both have struggled significantly in their performances. Speculation has arisen that the Dolphins might consider trading for J. J. McCarthy, a backup quarterback from the Vikings, if the current options do not improve. As the preseason progresses, Ewers may still have the upper hand due to his prior experience with the team.
