Dominik Horvath Retains Title at 2026 Austrian Championship
The 2026 Austrian National Championship concluded at Oberbank's Donauforum in Linz, where GM Dominik Horvath defended his title. He finished with 6½ points, edging out IM Laurenz Borrmann on tiebreaks, who also scored 6½ points but secured a grandmaster norm.
Throughout the tournament, ten players competed over nine rounds. Borrmann had a half-point lead before the penultimate round but drew his game after a winning position slipped away. Horvath, who faced a challenging match, managed to win in the end. Valentin Baidetskyi claimed third place with a score of 6 points.
In the concurrent Oberbank Challenger Open, IM Ruben Gideon Köllner emerged victorious with 7½ points. The tournament featured 117 players, and Köllner maintained his lead with a draw in the final round. Olga Badelka won the Austrian Women's Championship, finishing sixth overall.
