Don Strachan Reflects on Historic Wallabies Victory Over All Blacks
Don Strachan, the oldest living Wallaby at 97, reminisces about his role in Australia's 8–3 victory over New Zealand at Eden Park in 1955. This match marked only the fourth time the Wallabies triumphed over the All Blacks at this venue, with the last win occurring 40 years ago.
Strachan, who debuted in 1955, started in this historic match and has since reflected on the determination that fueled their success. Despite this victory, New Zealand retained the Bledisloe Cup after winning the first two tests of the series, a loss that still resonates with Strachan.
Strachan's rugby journey began after overcoming a serious motorbike accident that nearly ended his career. He later captained the Combined NSW Country side and contributed to the establishment of the Orange Emus Rugby Club, which has become a successful team in the Central West Rugby Union competition.
