Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2027 Set for New Venue
The 54th International Dortmund Chess Days, known as the Sparkassen Chess Trophy, is scheduled for August 8 to 15, 2027, at a new venue, the Salzlager. This change allows for an increased capacity of up to 450 participants, signaling a commitment to enhancing Dortmund's status as a chess hub.
The event will coincide with the 2027 International Garden Exhibition, granting all tournament participants access to the exhibition site, which will feature around 6,000 events from April 23 to October 17, 2027. The exhibition aims to showcase innovative solutions for urban development and green infrastructure.
The chess festival will maintain its focus on competitive play, bringing together international grandmasters and local players. The new venue will facilitate simultaneous tournaments and enhance the communal experience for spectators, who can expect live commentary on key matches. Further details about the tournament formats and registration will be released later.
