Draymond Green Suggests Klay Thompson Considered Leaving Warriors in 2019
Klay Thompson's recent agreement with the Miami Heat has sparked renewed discussions regarding his legacy in the NBA. Draymond Green, Thompson's former teammate, indicated that an injury was the main factor preventing Thompson from leaving the Golden State Warriors in 2019.
On his podcast, Green stated that Thompson was nearly ready to enter free agency that year, but a torn ACL sustained during the NBA Finals led him to remain with the Warriors. At that time, Thompson was set to become a free agent after a successful run with the team, including three championships and five consecutive NBA Finals appearances.
Thompson, who ranks fourth on the NBA's all-time three-pointers list, faced significant injuries, including a torn Achilles before the 2020-21 season, which delayed his return until midway through the Warriors' championship season in 2021-22. Green's comments raise questions about what might have transpired had Thompson pursued a different path in his career.
