Drew Allar Impresses in Steelers' Preseason Debut Against Packers
Drew Allar delivered an impressive performance during the Pittsburgh Steelers' 28-9 preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers on August 13. He completed 10 of 13 pass attempts for 153 yards and threw two touchdowns, in addition to scoring on the ground.
First-year head coach Mike McCarthy noted that Allar's abilities align well with the team's offensive strategy. He emphasized that Allar can adapt to various concepts the team has implemented. Currently, Allar is positioned as the third-choice quarterback behind Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard, as the Steelers prepare for their regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.
Despite the potential for overreactions during the preseason, analysts highlight Allar's strong traits, including his arm talent and mobility, which had previously placed him in first-round draft discussions. McCarthy's focus on fundamental skills, particularly footwork, aims to address Allar's weaknesses as he develops in the NFL.
