Drew Brees Discusses Fitness and Un-Retirement Thoughts
Drew Brees, the former New Orleans Saints quarterback and second all-time passing leader in the NFL, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this month. After a successful 20-year career, Brees retired in 2020 at the age of 41, and now holds a permanent place in Canton, Ohio.
In a recent interview, Brees expressed that he feels capable of still playing, attributing his limitations to a severe shoulder injury sustained in 2005. He mentioned that while he feels fit, his shoulder and wrist are not in optimal condition, and he anticipates needing a shoulder replacement in the future.
Brees reflected on his career, noting that he played at a high level into his 40s, a feat matched only by Tom Brady. He highlighted the advantages of modern NFL rules that protect quarterbacks, allowing them to maintain their performance longer. Brees believes that players in their late 30s can leverage their experience to excel, as evidenced by his own impressive seasons at ages 35 and 36.
