Drew Brees Unable to Return for Broncos in AFC Championship
Reports surfaced that quarterback Drew Brees contemplated coming out of retirement to join the Broncos for the AFC Championship following an injury to starter Bo Nix. However, Brees is still on the Saints' reserve-retired list, which prohibits him from returning to play this late in the season.
For Brees to play, the Saints would have needed to release him from the reserve-retired list, making him subject to waivers. Although discussions may have occurred between Brees and the Broncos' coaching staff, any communication without the Saints' consent could be considered tampering.
The situation was further complicated by Brees experiencing wrist discomfort and his ongoing shoulder injury, which limits his ability to throw. Consequently, the potential for Brees to play for the Broncos was effectively nullified.
