Drew Waters Clears Waivers and Assigned to Triple-A Omaha

The Kansas City Royals have confirmed that outfielder Drew Waters has cleared outright waivers and has been assigned to Triple-A Omaha. Waters, who has the option to elect free agency, has not yet indicated whether he will take that route.

At 27 years old, Waters was previously a notable prospect with the Atlanta Braves before being traded to the Royals in July 2022. Despite his potential, he struggled to meet expectations, posting a .234 batting average and a 31.1% strikeout rate over 208 games with Kansas City from 2022 to 2025.

After exhausting his option years, Waters was designated for assignment in March 2026 and did not make the Opening Day roster. Following a lackluster performance in Triple-A, where he recorded a .251 average and a 25.2% strikeout rate, he was recently removed from the 40-man roster. With no other teams claiming him, he now faces the decision of whether to pursue free agency or remain with Omaha.
