Dricus Du Plessis Declines UFC Light Heavyweight Tournament Offer
Dricus Du Plessis' coach announced that the UFC recently extended an invitation for Du Plessis to participate in a light heavyweight tournament. This proposal came after Du Plessis' victory over Kamaru Usman in July, following a title loss to Khamzat Chimaev.
Despite the UFC's interest, Du Plessis is prioritizing a return to the middleweight division, where he aims to reclaim the title he has previously held. His coach indicated that while the plan is to eventually move up to 205lbs, they want to secure the middleweight championship first.
Du Plessis is expected to be ready for a fight in early 2027 and has expressed interest in facing Nassourdine Imavov, who is likely to contend for the title next. Meanwhile, the light heavyweight contenders Jiri Prochazka and Aljamain Sterling are set to compete on November 21, with the winner potentially facing Carlos Ulberg for the title.
