Dries Vanthoor Discusses BMW M Team WRT's Transition in IMSA
Dries Vanthoor, a Belgian driver, is playing a key role in BMW's transition to the GTP program in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship after a four-month development period. The team made a strong impression with a podium finish at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, marking a significant shift from their previous partnership with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Vanthoor, who is in his second full-time IMSA season, noted the challenges of establishing a new program with a different structure and team dynamics. He acknowledged that while there have been positive signs, the team is still working through operational adjustments and minor issues that are typical in a new setup.
Despite these challenges, the team has shown competitive speed, with the #24 car achieving a third-place finish at Daytona and the #25 car securing additional podiums. Vanthoor expressed optimism about the team's potential for improvement and their ability to compete for victories as they refine their operations and vehicle performance.
