Duncan Chan Eliminated in First Round of National Bank Open

Duncan Chan, a Canadian qualifier, was eliminated from the National Bank Open presented by Rogers after losing to Argentina's Thiago Agustin Tirante in the first round on Tuesday afternoon.

Chan, who is ranked 601st in the world, lost the match with scores of 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (3) after two hours and one minute of play at IGA Stadium. He had previously qualified for the main draw by defeating No. 90 Hugo Gaston of France.

Tirante, currently ranked 65th, is set to compete against seventh seed Taylor Fritz from the United States in the second round. Fritz, who received a first-round bye, recently won the ATP 500 D.C. Open. Chan, a 21-year-old from Markham, Ontario, is preparing for his senior year at Texas Christian University.
