Dustin May Opts Out of Mutual Option with Brewers
Dustin May has chosen to decline his $20 million mutual option with the Milwaukee Brewers, opting instead to enter free agency. He will receive a $500,000 buyout as part of this decision.
This move was anticipated, as mutual options are rarely exercised by both parties. May had previously signed a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the St. Louis Cardinals before being traded to the Brewers, where he contributed alongside reliever JoJo Romero.
During his time with the Brewers, May recorded a 5.65 ERA over 36 and two-thirds innings in the regular season and allowed seven runs in 11 playoff innings. Despite a mixed performance, he achieved a career-high 145 and two-thirds innings pitched and maintained a strikeout rate of 23.2%. His strong fastball and diverse pitching arsenal may attract interest from teams in free agency.
