Dwane Casey Decides to Stay with Pistons
Dwane Casey will continue his role with the Detroit Pistons after withdrawing from consideration for the head coaching position at BC Roma SPQR, an Italian basketball team co-founded by former Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson.
BC Roma SPQR, which includes Mavericks player Luka Doncic in its ownership group, is set to compete in Italy's domestic league and the EuroCup for the 2026/27 season while aiming to join NBA Europe in 2027/28. The team had shown interest in Casey, along with other candidates like Terry Stotts and Riccardo Fois.
Despite earlier reports suggesting an agreement between Casey and BC Roma SPQR, it has been clarified that no such deal was reached. Casey, who has a coaching record of 494-570 in the NBA, transitioned to a senior advisor role with the Pistons in 2023 after five seasons as head coach.
