EA Sports College Football Faces Uncertain Future Due to Rising NIL Costs
EA Sports College Football may face cancellation again due to rising NIL payments, according to a report by Mike Straw from Insider Gaming. The game's return in 2025 saw players receiving $600 each, which increased to $1,500 by 2027, complicating the game's financial viability.
In addition to NIL costs, EA Sports must secure licensing agreements with schools, bowl games, and coaches to maintain authenticity. If the expenses exceed the revenue generated, the series could be discontinued, as profitability is essential for any product's continuation.
The company previously halted college sports games after a lawsuit regarding player likeness rights, resulting in a $40 million settlement. Although the game returned in 2025, declining sales have raised concerns about its financial sustainability.
