Eagles Release Defensive Back J.T. Gray as Roster Cuts Begin

The Philadelphia Eagles have terminated the contract of defensive back J.T. Gray this week as they begin to finalize their roster ahead of the 53-man deadline.

This decision coincided with the waiving of running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, who was designated as injured. Gray, who is 30 years old, joined the Eagles on a one-year deal in March after previous stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2025.

Initially brought in as a special teams contributor and reserve safety, Gray's performance during training camp did not secure him a spot on the roster, as he fell behind younger players on the depth chart. Despite his accolades, including First-Team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection in 2021, Gray's time in Philadelphia was brief and did not lead to a regular role. His release allows the Eagles to focus on younger defensive backs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
