Eagles Release Veteran Cornerback Ambry Thomas

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the release of cornerback Ambry Thomas as they approach the deadline to finalize their 53-man roster.

Thomas, who is 26 years old, was previously a one-year starter at Michigan and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2020. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round with the 102nd overall pick.

After signing a four-year contract worth nearly $4.8 million, which included an $840,618 signing bonus, Thomas faced challenges due to a forearm injury sustained in August. Following his time on injured reserve, he was waived by San Francisco and spent the remainder of the year on Minnesota’s practice squad. He later re-signed with Minnesota but was released during initial roster cuts. Thomas joined the Eagles' practice squad in August and returned to Philadelphia on a futures contract. In the 2023 season, he played in 15 games for the 49ers, recording 43 tackles, one forced fumble, one recovery, one interception, and seven pass defenses.
