
Ebbw Vale Edges Swansea in SRC Homecoming Match
Swansea RFC faced Ebbw Vale in a closely contested match at the newly revamped St Helen's, where Ebbw Vale emerged victorious with a score of 27-26.
Swansea initially took a commanding lead of 26-10, highlighted by a try from full-back Mat Protheroe, who became the first player to score at the renovated venue. Additional tries were contributed by scrum-half Matthew Aubrey and fly-half Josh Phillips, who scored 11 points. Ebbw Vale responded with two tries from hooker Ieuan Morris and contributions from number eight Rhys Jenkins and prop Luke Garrett, while fly-half Cai Evans added seven points, including the decisive penalty.
The match was interrupted by a serious injury to Swansea wing Iwan Glynn, leading to a lengthy stoppage in the second half. The crowd exceeded 1,000, with expectations of larger attendance for future matches, including the upcoming game against Cardiff on October 15.
