ECB Issues Central Contracts for 2026-27 Season
Ollie Robinson has secured a central contract for the 2026-27 season following his strong performance with England's Test team during the summer.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the issuance of 39 central contracts to men's players for the upcoming season, which includes 30 full contracts and 9 development contracts. The ECB introduced these contracts in 2000 to enhance their control over top players.
For the women's contracts, which were announced in November for the 2025-26 term, 17 players received full contracts alongside four on 'skills' deals. Central contracts allow the ECB to manage various aspects of a player's career, including workloads and injury recovery. Development contracts provide a 25% pay increase, with the ECB covering half of the salary and an additional 25% on top. A recent case involved Kent batter Zak Crawley, who lost his central contract and subsequently signed a new deal with his county.
