Edson Barboza Reveals Health Challenges Following UFC Retirement

Edson Barboza announced his retirement from MMA following UFC 330, a decision influenced by a severe eye injury sustained during his fight against Lerone Murphy in 2024. The Brazilian fighter faced a challenging bout, enduring 220 significant strikes while only landing 79, resulting in a unanimous decision loss.

Barboza revealed that the injury to his right eye significantly affected his vision, prompting him to reconsider his future in the sport. Despite being medically cleared to fight, he expressed concerns about his ability to train effectively with impaired vision, noting fluctuations in his sight.

After 16 years in the UFC, Barboza feels financially secure and is looking forward to new opportunities, although he acknowledges the difficulty of leaving behind a sport he has dedicated his life to.
