Edwin Díaz Faces Uncertain Future for Dodgers' Playoff Roster

Edwin Díaz's debut season with the Los Angeles Dodgers has been challenging, marked by injuries and poor performance. The three-time All-Star has spent significant time on the injured list and has allowed 18 runs in just over 13 innings, including four blown saves.

Currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City due to neck inflammation, Díaz's recent outings have not improved his situation. In four appearances, he has struggled, walking or hitting eight of 21 batters faced and allowing five runs in a single inning against Houston's Triple-A team.

Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Díaz's performance will be closely monitored as the playoffs approach, with no guarantee of his spot on the roster. The Dodgers, who signed him to a substantial contract, now rely on a committee approach for closing games, especially after another reliever, Edgardo Henriquez, was placed on the injured list. The team is assessing its options as the regular season nears its end.
