Edwin Diaz's Struggles May Affect Dodgers' Postseason Roster

Edwin Diaz's anticipated role as the solution to the Los Angeles Dodgers' ninth-inning challenges is now uncertain due to his ongoing struggles. After undergoing elbow surgery in mid-April, Diaz missed nearly three months and has since faced additional setbacks, including a recent stint on the Injured List for neck inflammation.

During his current rehabilitation, Diaz has struggled significantly, allowing six runs on three hits and seven walks in just 3.1 innings. His latest performance was particularly poor, yielding five runs on two hits and three walks in a single outing. These difficulties have led Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to suggest that Diaz might not make the postseason roster if he does not show improvement.

Initially, Diaz had a promising start to the season, securing saves in four of his first five games. However, his performance declined sharply before his surgery, and he has continued to struggle since returning. With an overall ERA of 11.85 and a WHiP of 2.561, the Dodgers may rely on Tanner Scott, who has excelled as a closer in Diaz's absence, if Diaz cannot regain his form.
