Egyptian TV Presenter Sarah Khalifa Sentenced to Death in Drug Case

Sarah Khalifa, an Egyptian television presenter, has been sentenced to death by hanging along with 11 co-defendants after being convicted of drug-related charges.

The group was found guilty of being part of a criminal organization that imported substances used for drug production and possessed illegal firearms. The court's decision followed the seizure of over 750kg of narcotics and raw materials for drug manufacturing, supported by testimonies from twenty witnesses and electronic evidence.

Khalifa, known for her program Mission Impossible, denied the allegations during her trial, claiming she had no prior knowledge of the drugs. The verdict was confirmed after obtaining a religious opinion from Egypt's grand mufti, a necessary step in death penalty cases. A report indicated that in 2025, Egypt recorded 492 death sentences, with 23 executions carried out.
