El Niño Forecast Predicts Significant Snow Changes This Winter
This winter is expected to be influenced by a powerful El Niño, which is projected to significantly alter snowfall patterns across the United States. A forecast map from AccuWeather highlights which states are likely to experience the most substantial changes in snowfall this season.
AccuWeather's Long-Range Expert Paul Pastelok noted that this El Niño could potentially be the strongest on record, surpassing previous significant events from 1982-83 and 1997-98. The forecast suggests that areas from California to the Gulf Coast will see increased precipitation, while northern regions may experience warmer conditions and less snow due to diminished Arctic blasts.
The snow season is anticipated to start early in regions like the Sierra Nevada and the central Rockies, benefiting ski resorts after a lackluster previous season. However, fluctuations in the El Niño pattern could lead to unexpected weather changes, particularly for East Coast cities, where a single storm could dramatically alter snowfall predictions.
