Elfyn Evans Faces Setback at Rally Finland After Roll
Elfyn Evans encountered a significant setback during Stage 14 of Rally Finland, rolling his car and dropping out of contention for victory against Sebastien Ogier.
Evans had been closing the gap to Ogier, reducing it from 16.3 seconds to 11.6 seconds before the incident occurred. Misjudging a turn, his Toyota GR Yaris rolled but landed on its wheels. Despite efforts from spectators, including his father, to assist him, Evans lost 1 minute and 49 seconds to the leaders. He managed to return to service for repairs ahead of the afternoon stages.
Following the incident, Evans fell to fifth place, now two minutes behind the leader, Ogier, who expressed satisfaction with his performance and noted the importance of maintaining a strategic approach. Ogier also offered assistance to Evans after the roll. Meanwhile, Martins Sesks from M-Sport also rolled his car during the same stage, likely ending his rally.
