Elfyn Evans Loses Podium Position Due to Puncture at Rally Chile

Elfyn Evans, the leader of the World Rally Championship, experienced a significant setback during the penultimate stage of Rally Chile, where a puncture caused him to fall from second to fifth place.

Evans, alongside co-driver Scott Martin, was leading the Super Sunday standings by 4.6 seconds when the incident occurred in the second pass of the 26.82km Carampangue stage. The wheel change took over two minutes, allowing his closest title rival, Sami Pajari, to gain a substantial advantage.

Meanwhile, Evans' teammate Oliver Solberg maintained his position and aimed for a second win of the season, leading by 13.3 seconds over nine-time world champion Sebastien Ogier, who moved into second place following Evans' misfortune. Adrien Fourmaux from Hyundai secured the final podium spot despite earlier punctures, while Pajari, having won the last three WRC rounds, is poised to reduce his points deficit to Evans.
