Ella Toone Joins England Squad for Women's World Cup Play-offs Against Greece
Ella Toone has been added to the England squad for the upcoming Women's World Cup play-off matches against Greece. The Manchester United midfielder received this late call-up after initially being omitted from the squad.
Toone, who has made 69 appearances for England since her debut in February 2021, has scored 24 goals and was part of the team that won Euro 2022 and Euro 2025. She expressed disappointment after being left out, describing the week as difficult.
In related news, Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze has withdrawn from the squad due to a minor injury sustained during a league match. The Lionesses arrived in Crete on Wednesday to prepare for the first leg of the play-offs, scheduled for Friday at the Pankritio Stadium in Heraklion, with the second leg set for Leicester City's King Power Stadium on October 13.
