Emiliano Martinez to Return in Weeks After Surgery
Emiliano Martinez, the Chelsea goalkeeper, anticipates a return to fitness in a few weeks after undergoing surgery for a jaw injury. The injury occurred during Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Argentine sustained the injury after a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, requiring eight minutes of treatment before being stretchered off the field. Following the incident, he was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed he had suffered a concussion.
Martinez expressed gratitude for the support he received and confirmed that the surgery was successful. In his absence, Mike Penders, who made his Premier League debut after replacing Martinez, is expected to play in the upcoming matches against Tottenham and Manchester United, as well as a Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso expressed confidence in Penders' abilities and emphasized the importance of squad depth.
