Emma Kirk-Odunubi Reports Racial Abuse During Great North Run

During the Great North Run, Emma Kirk-Odunubi reported experiencing racial abuse from some spectators along the route. The incident occurred near the nine-mile mark of the 13.1-mile race, which took place from Newcastle to South Shields.

Kirk-Odunubi shared her experience in an Instagram video, mentioning that she encountered England flags and heard shouts from the crowd before being booed as she passed by. She expressed that this was her most distressing experience in a decade of running, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in the sport.

The race organizers expressed their shock and sadness regarding the incident, stating that they do not condone such actions and believe the event should be inclusive for everyone. Approximately 63,000 runners participated in this year's race, which is known as the world's largest half marathon.
