
Enric Mas Increases Lead in Vuelta a Espana as Jakob Omrzel Wins Stage 12
In the Vuelta a Espana, Enric Mas of Spain enhanced his overall lead with a decisive late attack, while Slovenia's Jakob Omrzel claimed victory in stage 12, which concluded at Calar Alto.
Omrzel, at just 20 years old, achieved his first Grand Tour stage win by breaking away from his fellow competitors during the final 17km climb, finishing nearly two minutes ahead of Urko Berrade, with Santiago Buitrago taking third place.
Mas, riding for Movistar, broke away from a small group that included notable riders like Primoz Roglic and Felix Gall, increasing his lead in the general classification by 27 seconds. He finished sixth in the stage, nearly three minutes behind Omrzel, but now leads the overall standings by one minute and 56 seconds.
