Enric Mas Wins Stage Nine of Vuelta a Espana, Secures Red Jersey
Enric Mas from Spain won the ninth stage of the Vuelta a Espana, reinforcing his position in the race by claiming the leader's red jersey. This victory occurred on a challenging 187km route to the summit of Aitana, following the withdrawal of previous leader Tadej Pogacar due to injury.
Mas, who previously had one stage win in the Vuelta from 2018, attacked three kilometers from the finish line, successfully fending off competition from British rider Oscar Onley. He celebrated his win, marking the first victory for his Movistar team on home soil in five years.
With this win, Mas increased his lead in the general classification to one minute and 18 seconds over Primoz Roglic, who finished third in the stage. The race will take a rest day before resuming with the tenth stage, which includes three category-three climbs.
