Erik ten Hag Critiques Cristiano Ronaldo's Fitness During Manchester United Tenure
Erik ten Hag, the former manager of Manchester United, has expressed that Cristiano Ronaldo's lack of fitness contributed to his underwhelming performance during his second stint at the club. Ten Hag stated that Ronaldo did not adequately prepare for the demands of Premier League football.
In an interview, Ten Hag noted that Ronaldo failed to run effectively both in and out of possession, which he attributed to insufficient training efforts. He mentioned that he had high expectations for Ronaldo, having traveled to Portugal to discuss his vision for the team, but ultimately felt let down by the player's lack of commitment.
The situation escalated when Ronaldo, who became a regular substitute, requested to leave the club, leading to the termination of his contract in November 2022. He subsequently signed with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
