Esmerlyn Valdez Placed on 10-Day Injured List by Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain, just before their game against the Cubs.
Valdez sustained the injury while running to first base during a game on Friday. Although the severity of the strain is still unknown, this injury adds to the challenges faced by the Pirates' offense this season, which has already dealt with multiple injuries.
In his rookie season, Valdez has hit 17 home runs in 72 games, contributing significantly to the team's performance. However, he has also struggled with contact, recording a high strikeout rate. Utility player Ronny Simon has been called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill Valdez's spot on the roster, having performed well in the minors this season.
