ESPN Reporter Encounters Large Bug at Rams Camp

ESPN reporter Lindsey Thiry experienced an unexpected interruption while preparing for a live report at the Los Angeles Rams camp on Thursday when a large bug flew in her direction. The insect hovered around her for several moments before she managed to swat it away with her microphone.

Following the incident, fellow ESPN broadcaster Molly McGrath inquired about the bug's identity, to which Thiry remarked that it was the largest bug she had ever encountered. An investigation into the bug's identity suggested it was likely a figeater beetle, known for its size and clumsiness, rather than a more dangerous insect.

Figeater beetles, which can grow up to an inch long, are common in Los Angeles during the summer and are often mistaken for other beetles. Unlike their East Coast counterparts, they are not harmful and primarily feed on overripe fruit. Historical accounts indicate that these beetles were once used in jewelry by ancient cultures, contrasting their current reputation.
