
Essendon Players Will Setterfield and Rhys Unwin Sign Contract Extensions
Essendon Football Club has announced that players Will Setterfield and Rhys Unwin will remain with the team for the 2027 season after signing one-year contract extensions.
Setterfield, who previously played for Greater Western Sydney, returned to Essendon in 2026 after being cut at the end of the 2025 season. During the past season, he played 11 games and averaged 23 disposals, showcasing his skills under the guidance of new coach Mark McVeigh. Unwin, selected with Pick 61 in the 2024 National Draft, has participated in seven games but faced a hamstring injury this season.
Essendon list manager Matt Rosa expressed satisfaction with how both players handled challenges in 2026. He highlighted Setterfield's professionalism and commitment, noting his importance to the team and younger players.
