Essendon Re-signs Jayden Nguyen Amid Contract Uncertainty for Nik Cox
Essendon Football Club has announced the re-signing of Jayden Nguyen on a one-year contract, while rival teams are reportedly interested in Nik Cox, who is currently out of contract.
Nguyen, a next-generation academy talent, will begin his third season in 2027 after playing 10 AFL games since his debut in late 2025. Essendon’s list manager expressed enthusiasm about Nguyen's commitment to improvement and his competitive nature, which has been evident in his performances.
Nik Cox, a former top-10 draft pick, has played eight senior games this season after returning from concussion issues. He, along with teammates Thomas Edwards and Kayle Gerreyn, has yet to secure a contract for the upcoming year. The Bombers have also made significant roster changes, including the departures of Zach Merrett and Jordan Ridley, while acquiring new draft picks to enhance their future prospects.
