Eve Muirhead Returns to Curling After Revoking Retirement
Eve Muirhead, a gold medallist from the Winter Olympics, has decided to come out of retirement, motivated by her experience as Team GB's chef de mission at the recent Games. After a four-year hiatus from competitive curling, the 36-year-old plans to partner with two-time Olympic silver medallist Bobby Lammie in mixed doubles this season, aiming for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the Alps.
Muirhead stepped back from the sport following her gold medal win in Beijing, citing mental health challenges during her lengthy career. Her recent role in Milan-Cortina rekindled emotions and a competitive spirit she thought she had left behind. She expressed that her time away allowed her to explore new physical challenges and enjoy curling without the previous pressures.
Alongside Muirhead, her former teammate Vicky Drummond is also returning to the sport, aiming to inspire her daughter while competing. Drummond's experience in Cortina reignited her passion for curling, and she will partner with Euan Kyle in the mixed doubles program. The upcoming competition between Muirhead, Drummond, and Jen Dodds is anticipated as they all strive for a spot in the elite pairing for the next Winter Olympics.
