Everton Expresses Interest in Celtic Defender Alistair Johnston
Everton has contacted Celtic about the potential availability of Alistair Johnston, a prominent defender for the Canadian men's national team. This inquiry comes as Celtic prepares for their season-opening match.
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill confirmed the communication from Everton but noted that he was uncertain if an official bid had been submitted. The interest in Johnston makes sense for Everton, who struggled last season without a reliable right-back.
Johnston, 27, has made 102 appearances for Celtic since joining from MLS in early 2023 and has won the Scottish Premiership in each of his four seasons with the club. He has also represented Canada 51 times since his debut in 2021, participating in all eight World Cup matches in 2022 and 2026.
